Conveniently located near downtown Pittsburgh, Oakland, Squirrel Hill and the eastern suburbs.

Welcome

Welcome to The Mellor House Bed & Breakfast, a lovely Victorian home built in 1891 in the heart of historic Edgewood Borough, located in the East End of Pittsburgh. We hope you enjoy the pictures of the home and gardens, and we look forward to your visit.

We will welcome you for a long or a short stay! If desired, we will treat you to a gourmet breakfast, served on fine china with silver utensils, crystal glasses, and antique linens. For an extended stay, we will treat you more like family with cooking and food storage options that will cut your dependence on restaurant meals. For guests who are interested in longer stays, we offer special rates and will negotiate pricing depending on the season, demand, and availability.

History of The Mellor House

This lovely Victorian home was built in 1891 for the family of Michael R. Haymaker. Haymaker was a western Pennsylvania oil and natural gas producer. The house was constructed in the Queen Anne style, which is characterized by a non-symmetrical house shape and facade, steeply pitched roof, fluted chimneys, and ornamental woodwork. The home was built on a lot that was formerly part of the grounds of the nearby Gardner Mansion. Edgewood was Pittsburgh’s first commuter suburb, at a time when most white-collar downtown employees lived within walking distance of their workplaces.

In 1922, George and Clara Mellor purchased the home. George Mellor was an Edgewood native and vice-president of the C.C. Mellor Company, a downtown Pittsburgh musical instrument store. Mellor’s father, Charles C. Mellor, was an early homeowner in Edgewood. He donated the land upon which the Edgewood Club and the local library were built, and he is honored as the namesake of the C.C. Mellor Library. The Edgewood Club is located on the same street as the Mellor House Bed & Breakfast.

The Luckett Family purchased the house in 1999, and we have treasured it as our home ever since. You may see one of the three Luckett girls stop in, including the oldest with Kate’s grandson and granddaughter. Expect to be greeted by the family’s dog, a Pomeranian named Izzy. You will see touches of family life throughout the house. We hope you enjoy the heirloom antiques and family photos so that it feels like “your home away from home” throughout your stay.
